What do the sizes really mean?:
slings with a decorative panel that includes a very handy, deep pocket that's wide enough for diapers and sippy cups and |
slings with no panel or pocket, quite basic, and useful in their own right mostly because they don't cost much.
How are these slings organized and priced?:
Slings are categorized by fabric type and are priced by the type of fabric used and the amount of labour that goes into the crafting. Within each fabric category, you'll also find two styles of sling:
X-Small.....65"-70" |
Small.....70"-75" |
Medium.....75"-80" |
Large.....80"-85" |
X-Large....85"-95" |
XX-Large....95"-110" |
Our stock ring slings are sized loosely based on women's shirt sizes so that the tail falls at mid-thigh. If you'd like a shorter tail, please order a size up and if you wish a longer tail, order a size down. Basic ring slings can be safely worn with the tail falling as high as the waist; if you want a sling with a pocket and panel, keep in mind that any pocket below your knee is hard to access and that the sling will not adjust beyond the panel and pocket. See the webpage specifically about measurement and sizes for more info.

The majority of these ring slings measure 30" wide...that's wide enough to accomodate most toddlers and yet not so wide that newborns are "lost" in all the fabric. Any given sling can be used from birth thru toddlerhood. |
The rings used are made specifically for baby slings, weight-tested for strength and considered safe for a baby to "gum." Most rings are anodized aluminum, some are nylon. Rings are secured in place by several rows of strong stitching mostly hidden by an outer flap of fabric. |
If you would like to know more about the fabrics used, this website has a work-in-progress fabric info page. |

The shoulder style of these slings is called a "modified hotdog." Sure wish someone had come up for a prettier name. Unglamourous as it sounds, it's a good looking, practical and comfortable shoulder style that suits all sorts of people, no matter what their shape and build. The shoulder feels lightly padded. |
All egdes of the sling are finished to protect the fabric. Hems are rolled on the outside of the sling body so that there is no raised fabric to irritate a young baby's soft skin. Panel pieces for slings with a pocket are securely built into the hem of the tail fabric and, with very few exceptions, pocket and panel pieces feature a study twill tape rim to further protect the pocket's mouth. |
