Hold the pouch sling in front of you, seamed end towards your hip. Spread your arms within the sling to make a tube and then pull the tube over your head so that the top of the sling rests on a shoulder. Push your opposite shoulder and arm through the tube and place the pouch where you want the baby to rest. Smooth the fabric flat on your back and shoulder. Pick up your baby as if you were going to hold the baby against your shoulder, open up the pocket of the pouch, and gently insert your baby into the pocket. The baby's bottom fits neatly in the seamed pocket.
A few things you should NEVER do with a baby in a sling:
*place a baby in a sling so that his/her head is lower than his/her bottom,
*forget to hold on to the baby while you are placing the baby in the sling,
*put a baby in a sling without first inspecting the sling for dangerous wear and tear of seams and fabric,
*hold anything in your hands that is dangerously hot or cold,
*bend over to pick something up while babywearing without keeping a hand on your baby/sling combo
*leave your sling out where small children or infants might get tangled in it.
What Babywearing Positions Can You Use?
There are countless variations of babywearing positions used to suit different needs.
Visit my website, www.sweetthingsbabyslings.com for a more detailed info
and peruse the image gallery for more ideas.
Three general rules:
* the baby's head must always be higher than the baby's bottom,
* there must always be enough pouch fabric cupping the baby's bottom to hold the baby in place,
*the baby's bottom must fit neatly in the seamed pouch of the sling.
How long can you use your sling?
Unless your sling is made of a special, delicate fabric, your should be able to use it from the birth of your baby until the baby weighs around 30lbs.
Sweet Things Baby Slings: Pouch Sling Babywearing Guide
Welcome! These instructions are intended to get you started babywearing safely and with a smile. I encourage you to ask lots of questions, browse my website, and definitely explore the links on my website.
There are 2 fundamental principles to safe and enjoyable babywearing:
TENSION and ATTENTION. When you put a baby in a sling that you are wearing, the weight of the baby's body puts the fabric under tension. This tension holds the baby in place so that when you move, the baby and sling will move with you as a unit. This tension also distributes the baby's weight across the babywearer's body, making the baby feel much lighter to hold.
